David a. lange Appointed to ACI board of directors
CEE Professor, CEE Department Associate Head for Undergraduate Affairs and CEAT Director, David A. Lange, was selected to serve on the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Board of Directors for a 3-year term commencing at the conclusion of the ACI Spring 2010 Convention. The ACI Committee on Nominations recommended four individuals (including Lange) to serve on the Board of Direction, they are:
- David A. Lange, Professor of civil and environmental engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL
- Denis Mitchell, James McGill Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at and Applied Mechanics, McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada
- Jack Moehle, Professor of civil and environmental engineering, University of California, Berkeley, CA
- David H. Sanders, Professor of civil and environmental engineering, University of Nevada, Reno, NV.
Dr. Lange is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is Associate Head for Undergraduate Affairs for the CEE Department and he serves as Director of the Center of Excellence for Airport Technology.
Lange received a BS in civil engineernig from Valparaiso Universiy, an MBA from Wichita State University, and a PhD from Northwestern University. He has been on the faculty at UIUC since 1992 and has also held Visiting Faculty positions at Tongji University, Shanghai, China (1999), and the Technological University of Denmark (2001-2002).
A fellow fo ACI, Lange currently serves on the ACI Technical Activities Committee and chairs the Knowledge Center Task Group. He is a also a member of ACI Committees E802, Teaching Methods and Educational Materials, and E803, Faculty Network Coordinating Committee. He is a Past Chair of ACI Committee 236, Material Science of Concrete, and has been a member of several other committees. He has helped organize ACI convention technical sessions. ACI awarded Lange the ACI Wason Medal for Most Meritorious Paper in 2003.
Lange is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and served on the committee that prepared the ASCE Civil Engineering Body of Knowledge for the 21st Century (Second Edition). He is a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society. Lange was a National Science Foundation CAREER Awardee in 1996 and winner of the UIUC Xerox Award for Faculty Research in 2004.
His research interest is concrete materials. Recent topics include modeling shrinkage stresses in partically saturated porous materials, self-consolidating concrete formwork pressure, and characterizing pore structure. Lange has published more than 100 technical papers and reports, including over 50 peer-reviewed journal papers.
